How a Brain Tumor, Three Rockers, and a Chart-Smashing Single Led to 3 ISSA Nominations—The Rise of The Kyle Jordan Project

ISSA 2025: Three Nominations and Counting
From brain surgery to rock stardom—meet The Kyle Jordan Project, the modern rock trio racking up ISSA nominations and global chart love. Spoiler: they're just getting started.

Let’s be honest—if you haven’t heard of The Kyle Jordan Project yet, it’s time to climb out from under that musical rock you’ve been living under. This explosive Canadian modern rock trio isn’t just making music—they’re crafting anthems, breaking charts, and now, collecting

International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) Award nominations like guitar picks after a stadium encore.

Three nominations. One band. Zero chill.

A Little Trauma, A Lotta Talent

The origin story of The Kyle Jordan Project sounds like a Netflix biopic waiting to happen. It all started with frontman Kyle Jordan May, who, after a brain tumor diagnosis, didn’t just survive—he thrived. He turned to songwriting as therapy during recovery, which turned into a musical juggernaut. Imagine writing chart-topping rock while healing your brain. Yeah, we’d nominate him for an award too (and maybe a cape).

Enter bassist/vocalist Greg Van Kerkhof, who brought his prog-metal pedigree to the party, and guitarist/synth wizard Erick Gerber, a former South African metal monster from Red Helen. Together, they formed a trio with the raw power of a freight train and the finesse of a jazz pianist on espresso.

The Sound? Anthemic Rock With a Soul

Think shimmering guitars, stadium-filling choruses, and lyrics that feel like they were pulled from your diary (you know the one you don’t let anyone read). Their hit single “Demons” shot them all the way to #7 on the Worldwide Rock Charts, holding steady for eight weeks.

Their follow-up track, “Tall Blonde Honey,” earned praise as a “hard rock showstopper with a sinister twist” and enough edge to slice through the noise of today’s overproduced everything.

ISSA 2025: Three Noms and Counting

Now, with the 2025 ISSA Awards rolling out the red carpet for independent artists worldwide, The Kyle Jordan Project is stepping up with three well-deserved nominations. That’s a full-on rock ‘n’ roll chest bump from the global indie community.

Voting is live until April 30th, 2025, and if you’ve ever air-drummed to their songs or yelled “TURN IT UP” when they came on shuffle, now’s your time to return the favor:

The ISSA Awards go down on August 23, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia, and you can bet The Kyle Jordan Project will be there—bringing their energy, their story, and hopefully, a few trophies home.

In the meantime, stream the music. Share the tracks. Scream the lyrics. Support the journey. Because this isn’t just another rock band. This is a movement wrapped in distortion, harmonies, and heart.
