The hip hop community has been struck with more tragic news as Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, known for hits like “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)”, passed away at just 34 years old. Reports of his death began circulating on social media today, September 5, 2024, before being confirmed by his family and close friends.



Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, emerged in the rap scene during the early 2010s with his unique melodic flow, quickly making a name for himself with his relatable lyrics and catchy beats. His collaborations with artists like Young Thug and Birdman as part of the collective Rich Gang produced timeless tracks like "Lifestyle", further cementing his place in hip hop.


Though Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug later pursued solo careers, Quan remained a prominent figure, contributing to the evolution of Atlanta's rap scene. His distinctive style influenced both his peers and a new generation of artists.


Fans and fellow musicians, including Jacquees, have expressed their heartbreak on social media. While initial rumors point to a possible overdose, no official cause of death has been confirmed.
